Pinch me… I must be dreaming!
I’m not really sure how to start this post other than… Wow!
Things are all a little bit surreal at the moment but here goes… A few months ago we made the decision to relocate from the UK to Portugal, where my parents now live. This wasn’t due to happen until summer 2015. But very recently and totally out of the blue our circumstances have changed and we are now all set to move this coming October!
That’s in a matter of weeks!!
All systems are now go and where it seems that I’m running round like a headless chicken, Craig is taking it all in his stride and has started getting our lives in order. We are literally only taking with us what we can fit into our car, everything else we are selling – so it’ll be a fresh start in more ways than one!
Our house isn’t quite ready to move into just yet so we’ll be squishing into a bungalow for a little while until we can get into our dream home. I’ve no delusions that a family of 4 with a dog living in a one bedroom bungalow will be a relaxing experience but it’ll be an adventure none the less!
Last week I handed in my notice at work wow, did that feel weird! I have 5 week left being employed as an e-Learning Technologist and after that time ends I will be 100% freelancing as an Instructional Designer… how crazy and exciting is that!?
Although unexpected, things have been slotting into place nicely, I have been approached by two new clients and the work involved with them will bridge the gap between our big move and setting up our new home just perfectly.
Once we move we’ll also be able to get hands on with the house which will be hard work but well worth the hard graft and will hopefully give my family a little bit of rest time!
Although Oscar doesn’t technically need to start school until he’s 6 years old we are hoping to get him into the local school as soon as possible so he can start making lots of new friends and learning the language. I can’t help but feel a little anxious for Oscar as I worry he’ll hate being thrown in at the deep end but then I think back to times when he has been playing with kids he’s never met before and I soon remember how outgoing and friendly he is, regardless of if he can understand what they are saying or not!
Ava-Mae will be too young to start school but the village is full of such wonderful people and the community is just lovely that I have no doubts she’ll have plenty of play dates.
We will be scoping out gyms almost as soon as we arrive and then Craig will be my new training partner. I’m gutted I’ll be leaving my current training partner behind but can’t help but feel excited that I’ll be able to train with my hubby again, although I’m sure I’ll hate him within a couple of weeks of him shouting at me and telling me I can push harder and lift more!
We’ll also still be keeping our coach and as a lot of our contact is done online anyway not a lot will change there. There will be no change to or plans of competing either, from what I understand there is a fair sized bodybuilding scene in Portugal too so we will both be continuing to compete once we have moved.
The most exciting thing I am feeling at the moment is that we will be close to my family again, growing up I always remember having my grandparents as part of my daily life and soon Oscar and Ava will also have that pleasure. But as excited as I am about moving closer to them it also means we will be moving further from Craig’s family which brings me much heartache. But the bright side to look on is that we’ll eventually have a lovely little guest house which I’m sure if she had her way would be occupied by my mum-in-law for most of the year!
We’ll obviously miss our friends like crazy too, but again, with a guest house we really hope they’ll want to come and visit us!
Fingers crossed the next few weeks go smoothly!
