Special Edition Post: CC – Part One
It’s about time for another Special Edition post – this time one a lot closer to home, it’s about Craig and his first show is this Sunday!
How long have you had an interest in body-building?
I’ve been interested in bodybuilding since the age of 14 and have been training on and off since the age of 17 but stopped heavy lifting at the age of 25 due to fighting competitively in Muay Thai so was only doing light weight sessions during that time to keep my weight down. However I have been back into heavy lifting for the last two years after becoming lazy and gaining a shed load of bad weight.
Was there a specific reason that made you get into body-building?
Just seeing the amazing physiques attained by bodybuilding and I remember there was one specific moment that really caught my attention, it was seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film Commando which was my favourite when I was wee nipper!
How did you find out about the show you are about to compete in?
I was originally aiming to compete in the first timers category at the Mr Plymouth show in a couple of weeks time after seeing my good friend and training partner Martin compete last year. However because we were training together and because Martin was going in for a bigger show this year (UKBFF Welsh Championship) and after speaking with my coach Paul, we decided to throw me in at the deep end and go for the bigger show.
How long have you been preparing for the contest?
I have been in prep for 16 weeks now.
Have you had to change your diet much?
Because I had been working with my coach previous to contest prep my diet didn’t have to change too drastically to begin with other than changing to carb cycling for the last 8 weeks which is something I haven’t tried before. But food wise, these have pretty much been unchanged other than quantities.
How have your training sessions varied from your regular workouts?
There’s not been a great deal of change training wise as we have weight trained 5 times a week throughout the 16 weeks however a lot of cardio has been added to get the weight down.
What has a regular week looked like for you in the run up to the contest?
|AM||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session|
|PM||Legs||Back||Chest & shoulders||Rest||Back||Arms||Rest|
|PM||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session||CV session||Rest|
What have been the highlights during your prep work?
Quite simply seeing the amazing changes to my body!
What have been the lows?
Exhaustion from the sheer amount of cardio plus taking my grumpiness out on my family.
Have you had to do anything out of your comfort zone to prepare for the contest?
I think just the carb cycling as it was quite a shock to the system when it went to 5 low lays and 1 high day.
Have you been surprised by anything in the run up to the contest that you weren’t expecting?
I guess the speed in which you can change your physique with hard work and determination.
It’s only a couple of days until you complete, how do you feel at this precise moment?
Im excited more than anything just so I can get on stage and show off all my hard work!
