Special Edition Post: CC – Part Two
I couldn’t begin to tell you about the mixture of excitement, nerves, the energy and the lump held in my throat waiting for Craig to come on stage. Then his name was called… ‘Craig Chorley… representing Corefitness Gym…’ and there he was!!
I’m pretty sure I screamed fairly loudly when he came on stage and quite possible deafened the poor people sat in front of us but I didn’t care, because at that moment I could not have been more proud. I had no idea how he would handle being on stage and especially in front of such a big audience but I can tell you now that seeing the smile spread across his face was all I needed. That smile was as obvious as it could have gotten – not only was he happy but you could clearly see that he loved it up there!
Craig competed in the beginners category at the UKBFF Welsh Championships at the beginning of September, and it can be a bit of a wild card category as to who might enter. Just because you’re in that category doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re a beginner to weight training, some competitors could have been training all their lives and only just now decided they want to compete so it really can be a mixed bag.
There were 9 guys fighting it out for the top spots and unfortunately Craig didn’t place but there were some monsters up there. One thing’s for sure though, it was unmistakable that Craig has some of the best legs on show which is something he can certainly be proud of!
As with Part One of this post I asked Craig a few questions about his time on stage;
How were you feeling on the morning of the contest?
Good! I wouldn’t say I was nervous, excited though – as it was time to show off all my hard work.
What were your thoughts when you arrived at the contest and started seeing your competition?
Haha, when I first saw my competition for beginners class I did think to myself that I wouldn’t place due to seeing that some of the other guys were carrying a lot more muscle than me and were in very good condition.
How did you feel the moment you stepped foot on stage?
I can’t really remember as everything was going on so fast, we got thrown into it without much chance to pump up or apply any finishing touches to our tan so it was all a bit rushed. But once I was properly on stage I was happy to be there regardless of finishing first or last.
Was there anything driving/motivating you whilst you were on stage?
Luckily sat straight in front of me I spotted my wife and friends shouting my name and I could hear my coach Paul Scarborough to the left of me shouting at me when I was stood too relaxed.
What music did you chose for your posing routine and was there a reason why?
Originally I chose Jakwob ft Maiday – Fade which was burned to a CD but then heard rumors that copied CDs wouldn’t be allowed so rather than risk not having any music at all we stopped at the supermarket on the way up to the show and I grabbed an Ellie Goulding CD and chose Stay Awake.
What was running through your mind when it came to the placings?
I kind of figured that I would’t finish top 3 any way so when I wasn’t called it didn’t bother me as I’d still really enjoyed my time up there.
What was the first thing you ate after the competition?
White chocolate Oreos that my mum-in-law had sent over from Portugal on request!
You’ve been working beyond hard for the last 16 weeks, will you be having a break now?
I had a week off from training and diet but went a bit mad with food and am now on reverse dieting, slowly bringing my calories back up so I can put on some size in my off season.
What’s next for you in the world of body-building?
I’m taking a year out from competing now to have a good off-season and hopefully pack on some good size ready to compete again at the end of 2015.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would like to thank Paul Scarborough for getting me where I am today and looking forward to seeing what the next year brings working with Paul. A big thank you to Martin Winston, my training buddy for pushing me and giving me motivation all throughout the last year. And of course all my family for putting up with me, I think I’m slowly getting back to normal. And my beautiful wife for putting up with my crazy mood swings during low carb days!
