Week 3 – Perfecting the squat
So today began with the following tweet;
I had no motivation whatsoever, it was raining out and I was wrapped up warm ready for my walk to the gym… leg day.
I usually look forward to training legs but today I was exhausted, I’ve just started doing HIIT cardio on the stepmill and as it turns out, its no easy feat! Here’s fitness model Nicole Wilkins using the stepmill, she makes it look so easy!
My quads and hips were still so sore and I felt like I could have just turned around, snuck back home and snuggled back into bed, then the voice of will power took over… NO, NO NO! Get your ass to the gym, suck it up and work hard! It screamed at me. Well, when you’re spoken to like that you can’t really ignore it… so music on, and off I went, this time with a fresh mindset and a firm purpose.
As much as I moan about the stepmill it turns out it’s done amazing things to my strength, I was stronger and lifting more on all the exercises I did today, and even put the weight up to 50kg on the last set of my squats.
I lowered the safety bars down another notch to 11 and still managed to lower down to the bars and confidently push out 10 reps. I felt a little unsteady on a couple of reps but the extra weight seemed a little easier than the previous week and I felt my form was a lot sturdier too.
