Special Edition Post: MW – Part Two
One word… WOW!
What an amazing experience, and I was only a spectator! As you will have read in my previous post Craig and I went to watch our first body-building contest at the weekend, and more importantly we went to support our friend Martin who was competing in the first timers category.
I had the most exciting time and was truly in awe of everyone who went on stage, it must take some guts to get up there in front of so many people and flex like these guys did!
But onto the important part… I am incredibly pleased to tell you that Martin came in 2nd place out of a total of eight competitors! From where we were sitting it was clear to see from the get go that Martin was quite easily in the top three, all his incredible dedication, self discipline, and not to mention the hard training sessions had certainly paid off, he looked awesome.
I caught up with Martin to see how he was feeling after the competition;
How were you feeling on the morning of the contest?
I was very excited, slightly tired as I only had about 4 hours of sleep and I had to be up for 6:30 to cook my first meal of the day.
What were your thoughts when you arrived at the contest and started seeing your competition?
I did think I would be a bit nervous but adrenaline and excitement took over. The first time I saw my competition was backstage where we were all covered up.
How did you feel the moment you stepped foot on stage?
I felt extremely proud of myself, everything I had put in over the last 16 weeks was finally being shown.
Was there anything driving/motivating you whilst you were on stage?
The support I had on the night was amazing… when I heard the cheers and people shouting my name it just spurred me on even more.
What music did you chose for your posing routine and was there a reason why?
I had so many tracks which I had as my routine music over the weeks leading up to the show. I ended up choosing Lil Wayne – Love Me. I’m a big fan of Lil Wayne and the tune has a slow beat to it which allowed me to flow between poses very well.
What was running through your mind when it came to the call outs?
Looking at the competition I knew it was between 3 of us. It was too close to call, I gave it my all on the final mandatory poses and just hoped that I had done enough.
What was the first thing you ate after the competition?
I had to eat 2 sausage mcmuffins and 100g of chocolate back stage so I was actually quite full. I brought with me a box of pop tarts so tucked into them, then after the show my girlfriend and I rushed to Burger King before it closed to grab a burger and chips with a nice big strawberry milkshake!
You’ve been working beyond hard for the last 16 weeks, will you be having a break now?
I have the week after off work and training, so I am going to enjoy some nice food and have a good rest. I will be back training the following week with the goal of putting on a few extra kilos of muscle over the off season period. Ready for next years prep.
What’s next for you in the world of body-building?
Hopefully if I have a good off season I am going to aim for the UKBFF classic body-building category at the regional qualifiers with the aim of reaching the finals.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to say a big thanks to all my friends and family who have supported me over the last 4 months. A special thank you to my coach Paul Scarborough and my gorgeous girlfriend for being there every step of the way.

Once again, a huge congratulations to Martin, what an amazing result!
